Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have yoga experience?
Not at all. My classes are designed for all levels, including complete beginners. You’ll be instructed specifically for your body in your space, all you need is an open mind!
What should I bring to class?
A yoga mat and yoga props if you have them, no worries if you don’t.
What if I’m not flexible?
You absolutely do not need to be flexible to practice yoga. In fact, this is a reason many people practice! We’ll work on mobility, awareness, and stability while working within your bodies current limitations.
Are your classes appropriate for all bodies?
Yes. I believe yoga should adapt to the person—not the other way around. We’ll use props, walls, furniture, modifications, and different approaches to make the class work for your body and your needs.
What makes private sessions different from group classes?
Private sessions give us the opportunity to slow down and really learn something about ourselves. We can focus on specific goals, questions, areas of discomfort, or simply create a practice that supports you.
What happens during a private session?
We’ll begin by checking in about how you’re feeling and what you’d like to work on. From there, I’ll guide you through a personalized practice, offering detailed instruction, modifications, and answering questions.
Can I do a private session if I have an injury or physical limitation?
Usually, yes. Private sessions can be especially useful for adapting your practice around limitations or changing needs. If you’re working with an injury or medical condition, I may ask you to get clearance from your healthcare provider first.
Do I need to be in good shape to start?
No. Yoga can meet you wherever you are. The goal isn’t to perform well or keep up—it’s to develop a better relationship with your body through movement and awareness.
How does Zoom yoga work?
You’ll receive a Zoom link in your email confirmation and can practice from wherever you’re comfortable. I teach live and interact with you throughout the class, so you can ask questions and receive personalized guidance.
What if I miss a live Zoom class?
The class recording will be available in the library afterward, so you can practice when it works for you.
What kind of yoga do you teach?
My teaching is informed by my ongoing Iyengar yoga studies while also drawing from my broader background in yoga, Pilates, dance, and movement. Iyengar yoga emphasizes precision and the use of props to make the practice more accessible and therapeutic. It focuses on principles of alignment rather than the image of a pose.
How often should I practice?
Consistency matters the most. If you can practice for an hour once a week, that’s great. If you have the time and energy for a shorter practice a few times a week—or even daily practice—you may notice changes more quickly. The most important thing is finding a rhythm that feels doable for you.
Is yoga a workout?
Yoga can absolutely be challenging and help you build strength, mobility, and balance. But my goal isn’t for you to leave class feeling exhausted. I want you to feel more embodied, connected, and at home in your body.
Is this about changing my body?
Yoga can change how you move and feel in your body, but my teaching isn’t focused on weight loss, changing your appearance, or achieving a particular body type. I want to help you build strength, mobility, body awareness, and a sustainable relationship with movement.
